Description
A call to come and play by Michael Stewart TN163 June 24 The Newport Fiddle and Folk Club, based in Melbourne, Vic, is delighted to announce that Newport’s vibrant folk celebration returns this June, Friday 28 and Saturday 29. Immerse yourself in this celebration of folk music and the vibrant community spirit that defines this niche festival. Come to the Newport Folk Festival with your instruments, your voice, and your zest for life to engage in sessions, singing, and dancing. The diverse lineup of workshops includes singing and rhythm, sailor songs, sessions dedicated to Celtic and Old Timey music, plus a rare opportunity to learn to polka from local Lithuanians, ‘The Lost Clog’. The festivities begin with an opening evening concert at the Newport Bowls Club on Friday, June 28. The Saturday program expands into 5 venues with an array of performances from 10am to 11pm that move from folk, to jazz to classical (and Lithuanian clogging!). The very hot (and very cool) gypsy swing band Cigany Weaver are coming down from Brisbane and playing 3 times during the festival. Check them out! https://www.ciganyweaver.com/ So the invitation is extended to all. If you are free and interested, come along and enjoy The Newport Folk Festival. See you there.
