The aim of the Bush Dance & Music Club of Bendigo Inc and the Emu Creek Bush Band is to research, preserve, promote and perform Australia’s tradition and heritage of Colonial and Old Time Bush Dance and its relevant music. The Club and Band and Dancers are involved in recording, publishing, arranging dances, workshops and music.
This entails reviving authentic bush dances and appropriate music as well as the general old time social dances which were popular in country areas. Much of the music played and recorded is that handed down through the generations by district musicians. It has considerable variety covering waltzes, set tunes and jigs and reels, schottisches, varsovianas, polkas mazurkas, barn dances, hornpipes and two steps. The music played is relevant to the genuine bush dance and quite distinct from the modern revived Celtic music which as bush music is a misnomer.
