The River Folk Festival returns to the Yarra Valley in 2026 by Sam Watson TN179 Sep 26 Hosted across multiple venues and stages throughout the Warburton, Vic, township from October 2-4, The River Folk Festival is a boutique three day arts, music and cultural festival featuring international, national, regional and local performing artists in a curated program. It is a vibrant celebration of place, diverse culture, and creativity. Now in its 6th year, The River Folk Festival will be presenting a stellar program of performing artists over the weekend. These will include: acclaimed duo and matriarchal pioneers of the Australian Blak music scene, Stiff Gins; international string heavyweights, Hanneke Cassel and Natalie Haas (USA); the luminous collaboration of three of Australia’s most spellbinding songwriters (with string trio) that is Emily-Rose and the Wild; Japanese shamisen virtuoso and inspiring vocalist Noriko Tadano; high energy Tasmanian contemporary folk outfit Homebru; multi-award winning Australian singer-songwriter, Ernest Aines; the epic and incredible string ensembles of the Stringmania orchestra; and, the River Folk Restrung project, alongside a host of local and regional highlights. With the support of Festivals Australia, a highlight feature of the 2026 event will be the Strings Across The Valley project. This is a collaboration between The River Folk Festival and the popular Stringmania Music Camp, as well as the second edition of River Folk Restrung orchestrated by composer duo Mickey & Michelle. The Festival will present the spectacular string orchestral phenomenon that is the Stringmania Finale Concert, featuring an incredible collection of folk instrument players from all over the country and overseas, as a major feature of the Saturday night program. This will be complemented by River Folk Restrung presenting re-imagined renditions of songs from artists on the Festival lineup, featuring a full scale string orchestra, lushly curated by Mickey & Michelle. Patrons can expect a diverse range of programming across different venues, including: an Opening Night Showcase Concert in The Arts Centre, Warburton, to kick off the event on Friday; the Sisters of Song Women’s Showcase, celebrating women in music; the iconic Valley Market, Warburton, featuring local and ethical artisan goods; a dedicated Children’s Space; and, an extra special Director’s Concert to close the Festival on Sunday. In a time of uncertainty and instability for live music and festivals, The River Folk Festival is continuing to forge its distinct path in the industry this year, programming some of the highest calibre folk music artists from all corners of the industry, in a celebration of live music, culture and expression unbound by convention.

Hosted across multiple venues and stages throughout the Warburton township, The River Folk Festival is a boutique three-day arts, music and cultural festival featuring international, national, regional and local performing artists in a curated program over three days, and is a vibrant celebration of place, diverse culture, and creativity. It will be held from October 4-6 at Warburton, Vic. Now in its 5th year, The River Folk Festival will be presenting a stellar program of performing artists over the weekend, featuring artists from Victoria and interstate, including: the Jimi Hendrix of kora, Gambian musician Amadou Suso; exotic and award-winning French Balkan inspired Brisbane ensemble MZAZA; Ngiyampaa man and First Nations singer-songwriter, Pirritu; high energy, four piece Australian Celtic group Austral; stirring and heartfelt New Zealand/Melbourne storyteller and songwriter Kerryn Fields; and, the epic and incredible string ensemble that is the result of the Stringmania Camp, alongside a host of local and regional highlights. 2024 marks the first year of collaboration between The River Folk Festival and the popular Stringmania Camp, as well as the first edition of River Folk Restrung, a highlight program segment orchestrated by Mickey and Michelle.
