Review by Ian Dearden

From the drawing room end of the folk tune-playing fraternity, here is an album of traditional and contemporary Scottish tunes played gorgeously by Catherine Fraser on fiddle and Duncan Smith on piano.
The warm and rich sound Catherine Fraser extracts from her 1821 Matthew Hardie (the “Scottish Stradavari”) fiddle is nothing short of exquisite.
The piano accompaniment of Duncan Smith is constantly sympathetic, appropriate, and where called for – driving.
These two musicians are perfectly matched, or as the CD title would have it, in unity.
The cover defines it perfectly, as ‘oneness, harmony or concord’.
I couldn’t have put it better myself.
This is a delightful and eminently listenable collection of tunes which will tug at the Celtic heartstrings of all of us.
Superbly recorded and beautifully presented, this CD is a terrific advertisement for two great musicians.
With performers of this extraordinary talent and taste reinterpreting (and reinventing) the tradition, then traditional music is in safe hands.
May there be much more where this has come from.
