The Fiddleship was recorded while on tour in the UK in 2004. It includes some wonderful collaborations with Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer, including a bigband version of “King Willy”.
Review by Julie Dendle.
“The Fiddleship is the third CD from Cloudstreet – Nicole Murray and John Thompson who have been wowing audiences in the UK for the past 18 months. As well as being a fine musician and singer, Nicole is a talented artist and sculptor. In 2003 she created a ship from a fiddle with silver whistles for masts and sheet music for the sail -hence the name of the CD. The CD contains several songs and tunes that Brisbane audiences will recognise from Cloudstreet’s last performances before they went overseas.
The Fiddleship – written by John and inspired by Nicole’s sculpture and the Brisbane music sessions. It is reminiscent of Steeleye Span and incorporates the tune The Ship in Full Sail.
The Fiddleship was recorded by
Graham Bradshaw at Roots Records in Coventry, England. It will make
a great addition to your CD collection.
John and Nicole are due back home in a couple of months time. No doubt we will have a chance to hear them perform the tracks on the CD live shortly thereafter. I’m looking forward to seeing them again and hearing about their UK tour.”
